Longlisted! Kerry-Ann strikes again with a nomination for the incredible Little Rebels Award

Last Girl In, featuring rebellious hero Kerry-Ann has been longlisted for the very special Little Rebels Award

There are so many wonderful children’s books published every year and it is a huge honour to have a book longlisted for any award … but to be longlisted in the very special Little Rebels Award is just incredible and it feels just right for Cheryl Diane Parkinson’s cricket story featuring a girl who is determined to smash all kinds of ceilings.

Last Girl In is essentially a story about knowing your worth and refusing to take no for an answer. It’s about “knowing where you’re coming from and where you’re going to” as the Windrush generation is fond of saying, in the Black Caribbean community. In the story, Kerry Ann refuses to accept other’s definitions of what she should do - she’s determined to carve out the same opportunities for herself (and her friends) that the more privileged children enjoy.

Children are our most important critics here at Dinosaur Books - we like to publish books that children love, so it was fantastic to get this review of Last Girl In from Emman, aged 10:

"This book taught me to stand up for what is right and what is wrong. … I was glued to the book and stayed up late to finish it!

Thoughtful stories that children really want to read - that’s our aim and we think Last Girl In is spot on! *Huge* congratulations to Cheryl Diane Parkinson!
